A bit about the Elim movement
Hope Church is part of the Elim Pentecostal Church, which is a movement of Christian churches across the UK and Ireland.
Elim was founded in 1915 by George Jeffreys, a young Christian from Maesteg in South Wales. Jeffreys and a group of friends, known as the Elim Evangelistic Band, preached, started churches and witnessed a move of God that was characterised by miraculous healings and an explosion in the number of people becoming Christians.
In a world that can feel like a desert, our 21st-century churches seek to be a place of spiritual resource within their communities.
The founders wanted the name of their new Movement to express their vision and values, and so chose 'Elim’, the name of an oasis in the Bible that the people of Israel discovered as they wandered through the desert. It provided shade and refreshment to all who encountered it.

Elim today
Today, The Elim Pentecostal Church is a growing Movement of Christian congregations in the UK and Ireland. Through Elim Global, we are also connected to hundreds of churches and missionaries around the world.
Rooted in the Bible and shaped by Pentecostal theology and practice, Elim churches believe in the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, the importance of prayer, worship and discipleship, and the calling of every Christian to share the good news of Jesus. They seek to build welcoming, Spirit-filled communities where people can encounter God, grow in faith, discover their gifts and serve others, while engaging practically with the needs of their communities and supporting mission both in the UK and around the world.
Across the UK and beyond, Elim churches are:
- Reaching children and young people
- Supporting families and strengthening marriages
- Feeding and sheltering people in need
- Helping people overcome debt and addiction
- Befriending the lonely and caring for the elderly
- Supporting refugees and vulnerable people
- Planting new churches and developing leaders
- Sending missionaries to serve communities around the world
We're so happy to be part of this wider family of churches.
